Description
This training introduces key concepts and practical strategies for promoting equitable, culturally responsive substance use disorder (SUD) treatment within the Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) provider network. Participants will explore the foundational principles of health equity, social drivers of health, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and the impact of stigma, stereotypes, and implicit bias on treatment engagement and outcomes. The course also examines racism and discrimination as forms of trauma and introduces SAMHSA’s trauma-informed framework, including the 3 E’s of trauma, the 4 R’s of trauma-informed care, and the six guiding principles of trauma-informed systems. Through case examples, reflective exercises, and practical tools, participants will learn how to recognize and address bias, foster inclusive treatment environments, and implement strategies that improve access, engagement, and outcomes for individuals receiving SUD services. This training supports SAPC’s commitment to equitable, person-centered care and provides provider staff with the knowledge and tools needed to promote culturally responsive and trauma-informed SUD services across the provider network.
