Billing MAT Services Under DMC-ODS: The Codes You Need to Know

Description
This training provides an overview of the key billing codes and documentation requirements for Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) services within the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS). Participants will learn how to accurately apply CPT and HCPCS codes for MAT-related services, including assessment, medication visits, and care coordination. Designed for providers, billing staff, and program managers, this training will help ensure accurate and compliant billing practices for MAT services.

Learning Objectives

  1. Distinguish at least five (5) MAT billing codes under DMC-ODS, explain the services they cover, and identify the corresponding levels of care and provider types authorized to use each code. 
  2. Identify four (4) frequent billing errors for MAT services under DMC-ODS and apply appropriate coding and documentation standards to correct them. 
  3. Practice connecting at least three (3) MAT services to the appropriate Medi-Cal service codes using the SAPC FY25-26 Rates Matrix.

Process
Participants will read and/or listen to a recording of a live virtual training. At the end of the training, participants must obtain a passing score to complete this training and receive CE credits. CE certificate or certificate of attendance will be available for printing upon completion.

This course meets the qualifications for two and a half (2.5) hours of continuing education credit/contact hours (CEs/CEHs). Los Angeles County (LAC)-Department of Public Health (DPH) Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) is an approved provider of continuing education for CMPSS (CalMHSA, #1014); CAODCs, SUDRCs, SUDCCs (CADTP, #181); RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs and LAADCs (CCAPP, #4-19-316-0227); and, CATCs I/II/III/IV/V/N/i/R (CAADE CEU Provider #: CP40 989 AHC 0725). 

Los Angeles County-Department of Public Health (LAC-DPH) Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts continuing education credit granted by the California Psychological Association or by any of its Approved Providers. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 18086, for 2.5 contact hours. LAC-DPH SAPC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
