Understanding the Risks of Cannabis Use

Description
According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), approximately 1 in 10 people who use marijuana will become addicted. When they start before age 18, the rate of addiction rises to 1 in 6. Marijuana (cannabis) is the most commonly used substance in the U.S. and its use is growing. At the same time, the perception of harm is declining. Increasingly, young people today do not consider marijuana use a risky behavior. Given the risks for youth and young adults to use marijuana, and women who are pregnant or nursing, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) prepared this webinar to provide information so participants can help individuals, families, and communities make informed decisions regarding choices and behavior. This webinar will start with reviewing the 3 distinct forms from which THC/CBD/Synthetics can originate from and how they are consumed. An overview of physical and mental health effects that are associated with cannabis use will be provided. Lastly, this webinar will provide insight on the rules of personal use and cultivation, and legal vs. illegal cannabis dispensaries.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe factors associated with cannabis use.
  2. Identify physical health risks and mental health risks with cannabis use.
  3. Learn ways to stay informed as an adult that uses cannabis.
