Description
This training will cover the theory and application of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with an emphasis on youth populations. Participants will learn methods of practicing CBT concepts and techniques with youth populations and also review evidence-based treatment standards for youth under DMC-ODS. Methods to overcome barriers and challenges in using the CBT model with youth will also be covered. Lastly, participants will gain knowledge in the development and use of a CBT focused individualized treatment plan for youth populations and practice skills in facilitating the individualized treatment plan through a practical application.
Learning Objectives
- Accurately describe the application of cognitive behavioral therapy for youth and transitional aged youth populations who meet medical necessity criteria for substance use disorders (SUDs).
- Describe special considerations and challenges with the application of CBT among youth in treatment with SUDs.
- Accurately identify at least three CBT practices for addressing substance use and relapse among youth populations.
Intended Audience
Healthcare professionals and treatment providers working with youth substance use populations, including Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, Registered and Certified Counselors and associate/interns/students working under the supervision of licensed clinicians.
Instructor
Douglas Yost is a Licensed Psychotherapist, licensed by the State of California as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor. He currently serves as Vice President of Therapeutic Programs at Haynes Family of Programs. Mr. Yost has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with depression, self-harm, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and disruptive behavior. In addition to working in private practice, he also served as the Associate Director of Clinical Services in the University Counseling Center at Azusa Pacific University, where he also serves as an Adjunct Professor in both the Graduate and Undergraduate Psychology departments.

Format
This online course uses a mixed-media format with PowerPoint slides, voice-overs, and closed captions.
Process
At the start of the training, participants will be given a pre-test assessment. During the training, participants will read or listen to the material presented in the slides. At the end of the training, participants will need to pass the training post-test with a score of 80% or better to print a certificate of completion and receive CE credits.
CE Approval
This course meets the qualifications for one (1.0) hour of continuing education credit/contact hours (CEs/CEHs).
