• Clinical Trainings for Substance Use Services

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) 101

Description
According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a national survey showed that approximately 48.5 million people (17%) who are 12 years old and above in the United States had a substance use disorder (SUD) in 2023. Given the prevalence of SUD among the U.S. population and the need for assisting community members with SUD, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) prepared this webinar to help increase understanding of substance use and discuss ways of talking to someone who might have a problem with substance use to encourage them to get help for their condition. This webinar will start with defining substance use disorder (SUD) and identifying common signs and symptoms of a SUD. An overview of how to help and talk to someone who might have a problem with substance use will be provided. Lastly, this webinar will list resources for overdose prevention and substance use treatment for community members in LA County.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss general signs and symptoms of a loved one’s substance use and/or addiction.
  2. Describe two (2) ways that you can provide help for someone with addiction.
